Day 14 Burgos - Rabe de las Calzados

We are having another short day today to let the hordes (and there are hordes) of pilgrims get ahead of us.  We made our first reservation for tonight at a private albergue so we can relax and enjoy the walk without worrying about having a bed for the night.  The walk out of Burgos this morning was beautiful.  We walked under an arch that was so old you could imagine El Cid (who lived in Burgos) riding under the arch on his horse with his army right into the plaza in front of the cathedral - you can almost hear the horses!  There are several places where you get this feeling!  Here in Rabe de las Calzados the 13th Century church dominates the village.  The village looks quite prosperous with some new construction built around the narrow medieval streets.  We even saw two shepherds herding sheep through the back streets to their new pasture enclosed with old stone walls. We also heard some Spanish roosters - they sound just like yours Joanne!  We were having a siesta today when the bells all started ringing - and they rang for almost five minutes, really loud!  Apparently there is going to be some kind of fiesta here tomorrow.  I guess we will miss that one!  Buen Camino!
