Day 18 Poblacion de Campos to Carrion de los Condes

We took the suggested route in the guide but then decided to follow the alternate route, a much better path even if it was beside the road.  The walk was busy with pilgrims but everyone is friendly and says hola or buen camino.  I had to stop along the path today to look after a blister on my big toe and several people offered assistance and made sure we had what we needed.  It is very cold today.  Apparently it snowed in Madrid yesterday!  We are staying in Albergue Santa Clara Convent.  These 13th century buildings are very hard to heat!  The showers were good though.  We went to the eight o'clock Saturday evening mass that also offered a pilgrims blessing.  This was in a 12th Century church, St. Mary of the Way, Santa Maria del Camino.  After mass the priest gave us each an individual blessing while the choir of about 5 people sang.  When we were done one of the pilgrims sang Dona Nobis Pacem and the echoes gave me goosebumps.  The acoustics in these old churches are wonderful.  It is late and cold so good night.  Buen Camino!
