Day 9 Cirueña - Redecilla del Camino
Pedro made us breakfast - a bowl of cafe con leche and slices of baguette toasted and served with his homemade blackberry and fig jam - then he sat himself down at the head of the table and watched us eat. Our friend M. says it is like being under the watchful gaze of Mother Superior. Really puts a damper on any attempt at conversation!! It is a misty overcast morning. We walk near fields now, no more vineyards. Soon we can see the cathedral spires of Santo Domingo de la Calzada rising out of the mist. The cathedral is not open so we cannot visit the chickens inside (you will have to look up that story). We stop in Grañon to buy some disinfectant for my blister and it is starting to rain. The Auberge in Redecilla opens at 1:00 p.m. so we decide to stay here. There is a bar where we can buy a sandwich (bocodilla) but there is no store in town, so it will be a sandwich and wine for dinner. The Auberge fills up but no one speaks English. Bernard is forced to use his French! We are going to take a bus to Belorado tomorrow and have a day off to heal my blister, so to find out when and where to take the bus Bernard had to ask the Frenchman who had to ask the German who had to ask the Spaniard - then back again!! I hope nothing got lost in the translation! Buen Camino!
